There's a Dutch word that doesn't translate: gezelligheid. It's the feeling of a room that holds you — warm light on the walls, something soft within reach, nowhere else you'd rather be.
EVELUME started in a 1930s rental apartment in Rotterdam. Beautiful bones, terrible light — one cold ceiling bulb per room and a landlord who didn't allow drilling. The fix turned out not to be more furniture or another coat of paint. It was light: warm, low, placed where evenings actually happen.
Hardwiring wasn't an option, so we went looking for lighting that didn't need it — and when we couldn't find pieces we'd be proud to hang, we made our own. Rechargeable, rewire-free lamps you can mount in minutes, designed to look like they were always part of the room.
What began with light grew into everything that makes a house feel held: soft throws, honest materials, small details done right. Because atmosphere isn't what a room looks like — it's what it feels like at the end of the day.
